The new DJI Mavic Pro Drone

Okay, I have now had the new DJI Mavic Pro drone for a month and I have been using it and testing all the modes and features. After flying the DJI Phantom 2 for 3 years, this is a vast improvement. Mainly in the absolute ease of use and control, but also just in general. The major attraction for me is the size, the DJI Mavic Pro is just so compact that it folds into it’s bag and fit in a backpack which I can then take with me wherever I go. I find that the DJI Mavic now travels with me in the car wherever I go as it is so quick to pull out and use.

Some basic features are that The Mavic Pro is DJI’s smallest drone yet. With a compact folded size of H83mm x W83mm x L198mm and weighing only 743g its easy to transport and will comfortably fit in a small shoulder bag. Although the DJI Mavic Pro is more compact and lighter than any other quadcopter drone from DJI it does not exclude any major features or technologies: it has a 3-axis gimbal, shoots 4K 30p, it even includes an autonomous tracking and obstacle avoidance system similar to the Phantom 4’s to avoid collisions while automatically following you.

Top features includes: 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, 4K 30p video recording, 3-axis gimbal, foldable propeller arms, 7km transmission range, autonomous tracking and obstacle avoidance, D-log flat picture profile video, and a flight time of up to 27 minutes.

I am not going to get into detail, specs and showcase videos from the device. I can tell you it is phenomenal. Here is a link to one some of my videos and images taken with the DJI Mavic Pro that I distribute via iStock by Getty images – http://www.istockphoto.com/za/collaboration/boards/YzplAh1eUkKRRdnrgWD_Sw (I will be adding more in the next weeks so check back in)

Some of the features that I am really enjoying include:

  • 4K video
  • Auto take off/landing (very accurate)
  • Active Track – follows me or anyone
  • Point of Interest

I will slowly be testing and going through all the modes as I learn more about the device.

As you can see by the quality – it is truly amazing.

I have taken some editorial images of the DJI Mavic Pro which can also be found on iStock by Getty images

My DJI Mavic Pro was purchased at Orms in Cape Town
